Mamelodi twins killed at home as police pursue leads

Two 14-year-old brothers were killed inside their Mamelodi West home, leaving their family waiting for answers while police investigate who attacked them and why.

Police said their mother discovered the twins in a bedroom when she returned from work on Friday, 2 October 2026. They had sustained multiple stab wounds. SAPS confirmed the killings in a statement issued the following day.

In reporting published on Sunday, 4 October 2026, Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the circumstances remained unknown and nobody had been arrested. Investigators were pursuing leads.

A family’s loss should not become a guessing game

In SABC’s account of the community’s response, Bishop Mashilo Mangena remembered the boys as kind children who enjoyed attending church.

Government has appealed for anyone with information to approach police and discouraged the circulation of unverified claims on social media, warning that speculation could cause further distress to the family.

Earlier reporting that there was no apparent forced entry does not establish who entered the house, whether the boys knew the attacker or what the motive was. None of those questions can be answered by turning one detail from a crime scene into a complete story.

The next developments must come from evidence

A person being interviewed is not the same as a person being arrested or charged. Public attention should remain on confirmed investigative progress, without naming supposed suspects from messages or demanding that relatives defend themselves against online theories.

For people with relevant information, the useful step is to give police what they actually saw, heard or possess, including when it happened. Repeated online speculation cannot replace an original witness account.

The family needs support and a dependable account of progress. The investigation needs to establish a sequence of events that can be tested against evidence. Neither is helped by graphic material or an invented explanation for the deaths of two children.
